What Was On Top?

Barbra Streisand moved into the top spot with "Woman In Love." It was the lead single from her album Guilty and her fifth #1 hit.

After spending three weeks at the top Queen dipped to #2 with "Another One Bites The Dust." The The Pointer Sisters moved up two spots to #3 with "He's So Shy." The song would peak there and was the second top ten hit at the time for the vocal group.

Diana Ross moved down one notch to #4 with her former #1 hit "Upside Down," from her album Diana - a song written and produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards of the group Chic. The Doobie Brothers moved up one spot into the top five with "Real Love," the lead single from their platinum album One Step Closer.

What Were The Big Movers?

A big mover just outside the top five was "Lady" by Kenny Rogers which bounded from #17 up to #6 in just its fourth week on the chart. It was also the biggest mover within the top 40 for the week. Diana Ross came close to the top ten with "I'm Coming Out." Her follow-up to "Upside Down" jumped from #18 to #11.

"Lovely One by The Jacksons, which was the biggest mover in the top 40 the previous week, moved up another nine notches this week from #28 to #19. Leo Sayer moved up nine spots as well with his future top ten hit "More Than I Can Say."

Christopher Cross made a nice 15 notch jump into the top 40 from #55 to #40 with "Never Be The Same." The song was the biggest mover on the entire chart the previous week.

The biggest movers on the entire chart both climbed 17 spots, and neither ended up being a very big hit. "I'm Happy That Love Has Found You" by former Wet Willie singer Jimmy Hall moved from #58 to #41, and "Deep Inside My Heart" by Randy Meisner climbed from #79 to #62.

Singer Amy Holland had the biggest drop for the week. Her song "How Do I Survive" fell from its peak at #22 down to #51.

What Was New?

The highest debut for the week was by Paul Simon. "One Trick Pony" was the title track to the soundtrack for the movie of the same name and entered the chart at #78.

Right behind it was "Suddenly" - a duet by Olivia Newton-John and Cliff Richard and another single from the soundtrack for the movie Xanadu. And right behind that at #80 The Police debuted with "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da" - a song which would become their first top ten hit.

The rest of the debut songs were "Sherry" by Robert John (#82), "Every Woman In The World" by Air Supply (#84), "It's My Turn" by Diana Ross (#86), "When We Get Married" by Larry Graham (#88), and the future #1 smash hit "Celebration" by Kool & The Gang at #87.
