Deep Purple is an English rock band that formed in 1968. Their most commercially successful line-up consisted of Ian Gillan (vocals), Jon Lord (keyboards), Roger Glover (bass), Ian Paice (drums), and Ritchie Blackmore (guitar). David Coverdale was lead vocalist from 1973-1976. The band's most famous song is "Smoke On The Water" from 1973 (with Gillan on vocals).
