What Was On Top?

Rupert Holmes returned to the top spot this week after a week at #2 with "Escape." The song now has three total weeks at number one after spending the last two weeks of 1979 there.

Climbing and knocking on the door to challenge Holmes for the top spot are Michael Jackson's "Rock With You" at #2 and "Do That To Me One More Time" by The Captain & Tennille at #3.

"Send One Your Love" by Stevie Wonder spent a fourth consecutive week at #4, while last week's #1 song "Please Don't Go" by KC & The Sunshine Band tumbled to #5. There were no new songs in the top ten, as last week's top ten just shuffled positions.

What Were The Big Movers?

"An American Dream" by The Dirt Band jumped 26 spots from #59 to #33. That was biggest mover within the chart for the week. There were also double-digit leaps by Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" (#43 to #30), "Longer" by Dan Fogelberg (#67 to #55) and Anne Murray's remake of "Daydream Believer" (#56 to #46).

Taking a huge drop was "Heartache Tonight" by the Eagles. The former number one song fell 65 notches from #34 to #99. Crystal Gayle's "Half The Way" also fell big time from #33 to #85.

What Was New?

Journey had the highest debut of the week with "Too Late" coming in at #81. However the follow up to "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'" would only get as high as #70. The debut song that would be the biggest was "On The Radio" by Donna Summer. It would go on to become a top five hit for the queen of disco.

"Let Me Go, Love" by Nicolette Larson and "Kiss Me In The Rain" by Barbra Streisand debuted and would become minor top 40 hits. Also making the chart were "Remember (Walking In The Sand)" by Aerosmith, "Trust Me" by Cindy Bullens, and "Takin' It Back" by Breathless.
