What Was On Top?

Michael Jackson's "Rock With You" climbed into the top spot and became his third number one song as a solo artist. It was the second chart topper from his Off The Wall album following "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough."

"Do That To Me One More Time" by The Captain & Tennille inched closer to the top moving from #3 to #2, while "Escape" - last week's number one song - dipped to #3.

"Coward Of The County" by Kenny Rogers made a solid three-notch jump from #7 to #4. "Send One Your Love" slipped a spot to #5 after four consecutive weeks at #4.

What Were The Big Movers?

"Cruisin'" by Smokey Robinson made an impressive jump into the top ten from #12 to #6, and Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" made a double-digit leap for the second week in a row - moving up twelve spots from #30 to #18.

"Daydream Believer" by Anne Murray continued a rapid climb moving from #46 up to #28. "Longer" by Dan Fogelberg vaulted up twenty spots from #55 to #35.

Several other songs made double-digit leaps, but the biggest climber of the week was "On The Radio" by Donna Summer which moved 37 spots from #86 to #49.

The biggest drop within the chart for the week was "Train Train" by Blackfoot, which tumbled 60 notches from #39 to #99.

What Was New?

There were eleven new song on the chart for the week. The highest debut went to Rupert Holmes and "Him" at #72, his follow-up to "Escape." Next was "Too Hot" by Kool & The Gang. Both would go on to become top ten hits.

The third-highest debut would become one of the year's biggest smashes. Coming in at #77 was "Another Brick In The Wall" by Pink Floyd.

Another debut song of note was "I Wish I Was Eighteen Again" by George Burns. It was the actor/comedian's only song to hit the pop chart and would peak at #49.

The rest of the week's debut songs included Bette Midler's remake of "When A Man Loves A Woman," "I Thank You" by ZZ Top, "Got To Love Somebody" by Sister Sledge, "Back On My Feet Again" by The Babys, "Give It All You Got" (theme song for the 1980 Winter Olympics) by Chuck Mangione, "I Pledge My Love" (a wedding song) by Peaches and Herb, and "I Don't Want To Be Lonely" by Dana Valery.
