What Was On Top?

English band Pink Floyd jumped from #3 into the top spot with "Another Brick In The Wall." It was the band's only number one song as well as their only top ten song.

The previous week's number one song "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" by Queen dipped to #3, while "Longer" by Dan Fogelberg" held on for a second week at #2.

"Desire" by Andy Gibb held at #4 for a third week, while the medley "Working My Way Back To You/Forgive Me, Girl" by The Spinners inched up a spot into the top five.

What Were The Big Movers?

There weren't a lot of big moves within the top 40. The biggest was "Lost In Love" by Air Supply which jumped from #32 to #25 - their first chart hit.

However three songs made big jumps into the top 40, lead by "You May Be Right." In just its second week the song by Billy Joel moved up 26 notches from #53 to #27. That was the biggest leap within the chart. Also making double-digit jumps into the top 40 were "Hold On To My Love" by Jimmy Ruffin (#47 to #31) and "Pilot Of The Airwaves" by newcomer Charlie Dore (#50 to #39).

A bunch of other songs made double-digit jumps below the top 40, led by "Think About Me" by Fleetwood Mac (#66 to #43) and "Stomp!" by The Brothers Johnson (#86 to #70).

The biggest dropper of the week was by Bette Midler. Her remake of the Percy Sledge classic "When A Man Loves A Woman" fell 58 spots from #35 to #93.

What Was New?

There were nine debut songs on the chart, and the highest was "Let Me Be" by Korona at #72. However the song would get no higher on the chart than #43. The band was led by Bruce Blackman who also led the band Starbuck ("Moonlight Feels Right") in the 70s.

Bette Midler may have had the biggest dropping song, but she also debuted with "The Rose." It was the title song from the movie starring Midler and it was the only future top ten song of the week's new songs - it would peak at #3. Other songs that would reach the top 40 included "Train In Vain" by The Clash, "Heart Hotels" by Dan Fogelberg, and "Wondering Where The Lions Are" by Bruce Cockburn.

The rest of the new songs were "Today Is The Day" by the Bar-Kays, "It's Hard To Be Humble" by Mac Davis, "Stay In Time" by Off Broadway USA, and "Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll Pt. 1" by Vaughan Mason And Crew.
