What Was On Top?

Blondie climbed into the number one spot with their song from the movie "American Gigolo" - "Call Me." It became the band's second #1 song. The first was "Heart Of Glass" in 1979.

"Another Brick In The Wall" by Pink Floyd dipped to #2 after a 4-week run at the top. Christopher Cross and his first hit "Ride Like The Wind" moved up a notch to #3.

"With You I'm Born Again" by Billy Preston & Syreeta made a strong move from #7 to #4, while Ray, Goodman & Brown (who used to be known as The Moments) secured a top 5 hit as "Special Lady" moved up from #6 to #5.

What Were The Big Movers?

Air Supply made a solid leap into the top ten from #12 to #6 with their first hit "Lost In Love." "Fire Lake" by Bob Seger also made a jump into the top ten from #11 to #7.

The duet of Kenny Rogers and Kim Carnes continued a strong and swift climb up the chart, moving from #26 to #16 in its fourth week with "Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer."

Three songs made impressive leaps of at least twenty notches into the top 40. The biggest jump of the week was "Funkytown" by Lipps Inc, moving from #61 to #37. The other two were "Biggest Part Of Me" by Ambrosia (#44 to #24) and "Hurt So Bad" by Linda Ronstadt (#46 to #23). Also moving up twenty notches from #82 to #62 was Headed For A Fall" by Firefall.

The song that dropped the furthest on the chart for the week was "Heartbreaker" by Pat Benatar. It fell from #40 all the way down to #99.

What Was New?

Eleven new songs joined the chart, led by the fourth single from the Michael Jackson album Off The Wall. The ballad "She's Out Of My Life" came in at #57 and would go on to become another top ten hit for Jackson.

Several of the other debut songs would go on to reach the top 40. Those songs included "Don't Say Goodnight" by The Isley Brothers (#76), "Lady" by The Whispers (#77), "Twilight Zone/Twilight Tone" by Manhattan Transfer (#84), "Two Places At The Same Time" by Ray Parker Jr & Raydio (#86), and "New Romance" by Spider (#90).

The remaining debut songs included "It's A Night For Beautiful Girls" by The Fools, "Catching The Sun" by Spyro Gyra, "Rock Lobster" by The B-52's, "Coming Down From Love" by Bobby Caldwell, and "Seasons" by Grace Slick.
