What Was On Top?

Pink Floyd ruled the roost for a fourth and final week with "Another Brick In The Wall." The band's only top ten song was the third song in the year so far to spend four weeks at the top ("Rock With You" and Crazy Little Thing Called Love were the others).

"Call Me" by Blondie inched a spot closer to the top at #2, while The Spinners traded spots with Blondie as "Working My Way Back To You" dipped to #3.

Christopher Cross and his first hit "Ride Like The Wind" made a nice move from #7 up to #4. "Too Hot" by Kool and the Gang held firm at #5.

What Were The Big Movers?

After climbing slowly and steadily for 18 weeks, "With You I'm Born Again" by Billy Preston & Syreeta made a statement jumping eight notches from #15 to #7. It became Preston's first top ten hit since he hit #1 in 1974 with "Nothing From Nothing."

Another duet making a big jump was Kenny Rogers and Kim Carnes. The pair moved 18 spots from #44 to #26 with "Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer." The Brothers Johnson jumped 15 notches into the top 40 with "Stomp!" (#45 to #30).

Equaling the biggest jump of the week (18 notches) was the future #1 song "Funkytown" by Lipps Inc (#79 to #61). "Biggest Part Of Me" by Ambrosia moved up 16 spots from #60 to #44. "Wondering Where the Lions Are" and "The Seduction" climbed 13 and 12 spots respectively.

Four different songs had the biggest drop within the chart of 42 notches. They were "99," "An American Dream," "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys," and the former number one hit "Rock With You."

What Was New?

Nine new songs graced the chart. The highest debut by far was the Linda Ronstadt follow up to the top ten song "How Do I Make You." "Hurt So Bad" came in up at #46.

Another future top ten song, "Steal Away" by Robbie Dupree, debuted at #85. Three future top 40 songs were "I Don't Want To Walk Without You" by Barry Manilow, "Headed For A Fall" by Firefall, and "Love Stinks" by the J. Geils Band.

The rest of the new songs included "Goin' On" by The Beach Boys, "You've Got What I Need" by Shooting Star, "Say Goodbye To Little Jo" by Steve Forbert, and "I Was Looking For Someone To Love" by Leif Garrett.
