What Was On Top?

"Call Me" by Blondie remained on top for a fifth consecutive week. Five weeks at the top gave the song the longest reign at #1 so far in 1980.

By staying at #1, "Call Me" held at bay the songs at #2 and #3. "Ride Like The Wind" by Christopher Cross stayed at #2 for a fourth and final week. "Lost In Love" by Air Supply was at #3 for a third week.

After making decent gains for the first seven weeks of its chart run, "Funkytown" by Lipps Inc made a huge jump into the top ten from #19 all the way up to #4. "With You I'm Born Again" by Billy Preston & Syreeta dipped to #5 in its 24th week on the chart.

What Were The Big Movers?

While "Funkytown" made the biggest jump within the top 40, one other song also made a double-digit jump. "Little Jeannie" by Elton John climbed from #38 to #27.

Below the top 40 "Run Like Hell" by Pink Floyd equaled "Funkytown" for the biggest jump of the week - 15 notches from #80 to #65. Other songs that climbed more than ten notches included "Shining Star" (#66 to #52), "Let Me Love You Tonight" (#81 to #68), "Answering Machine" (#72 to #59), "Theme From New York, New York" (#60 to #49), and "Tired Of Toein' The Line" (#71 to #60).

Taking the biggest tumbles this week were "White Hot" by Red Rider (#48 to #96) and "Solitaire" by Peter McIan (#52 to #100). Both dropped 48 notches.

What Was New?

A big 14 new songs joined the chart this week. The highest debut would also have the most successful chart run - "Cupid/I've Loved You For A Long Time" by The Spinners came in at #67 and would go on to peak at #4.

No other new songs would make the top ten, but several would reach the top 40. They included "Atomic" by Blondie (#71), a remake of "One Fine Day" by Carole King (#73), "Clones" by Alice Cooper (#77), and "A Lover's Holiday" by Change (#90). There were also a couple new songs from the soundtrack to Urban Cowboy that would be top 40 hits - "All Night Long" by Joe Walsh and a remake of "Stand By Me" by Mickey Gilley.

The remaining new songs were "Back Together Again" by Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway, "All Night Thing" by Invisible Man's Band, "Dancin' Like Lovers" by Mary Macgregor, "Is This Love" by Pat Travers Band, "I Only Want To Be With You" by The Tourists, "Somethin' 'Bout You Baby I Like" by Glen Campbell & Rita Coolidge, and "Love And Loneliness" by The Motors.
