What Was On Top?

"Call Me" by Blondie spent a fourth consecutive week at #1. The song from the "American Gigolo" soundtrack went on to become the band's biggest hit.

"Ride Like The Wind" by Christopher Cross remained at #2 for a third week, while "Lost In Love" by Air Supply repeated at #3.

"With You I'm Born Again" by Billy Preston & Syreeta spent a fourth week at #4 and the former #1 song "Another Brick In The Wall" by Pink Floyd also stayed put at #5. In fact, the top seven songs all were in the same positions as the previous week.

What Were The Big Movers?

There weren't many big movers within the top 40. The biggest was "Steal Away" by Robbie Dupree which climbed ten notches from #33 to #23.

However several songs made big jumps into the top 40, led by "Against The Wind." The Bob Seger song surged from #54 to #26 in its second week on the chart. Right behind was "Coming Up" by Paul McCartney which moved from #53 to #27. Also making a big move was "Little Jeannie" by Elton John climbing from #65 to #38 in its second week.

Below the top 40 "Theme From New York, New York" by Frank Sinatra moved up 16 spots and "Shining Star" by The Manhattans climbed 15 notches.

There were a handful of songs that made some big drops this week, but the biggest drop was by the song "Fire In The Morning" by Melissa Manchester. It had peaked the previous week at #32, but fell this week to #64.

What Was New?

The highest debuting song of the week was "Tired Of Toein' The Line" by Rocky Burnette. It came in at #71 and would go on to be a top ten hit and the only hit for the son of Johnny Burnette. One other debut song would become a top ten hit: "Let Me Love You Tonight" by Pure Prairie League which debuted at #81.

Eight total songs were new this week, and songs that would go on to make the top 40 were and "Power" by The Temptations (#73), "King Of The Hill" by Oak (#88), and "Ashes By Now" by Rodney Crowell (#90).

The other three new songs were "Run Like Hell" by Pink Floyd, "Inside Of You" by Ray, Goodman & Brown, and "Happy Together" by The Captain & Tennille - the duo's last charting song.
