What Was On Top?

Billy Joel moved into the top spot with "It's Still Rock N Roll To Me" and got the first number one single of his career. Before this, he had two songs peak at #3 - "Just The Way You Are" and "My Life."

After three weeks at number one Paul McCartney dropped to #2 with "Coming Up."

Elton John and The Spinners each moved up a spot. "Little Jeannie" reached #3 while "Cupid/I've Loved You For A Long Time" reached #4. The Manhattans took a big jump into the top ten from #11 to #5 with the ballad "Shining Star."

What Were The Big Movers?

The S.O.S. Band tied for the biggest jump within the top 40. "Take Your Time (Do It Right)" moved up eight notches from #19 to #11. Also jumping eight spots were "Jojo" by Boz Scaggs (#39 to #31) and "Old-Fashion Love" by The Commodores (#37 to #29).

The biggest mover on the chart was "Why Not Me" by Fred Knoblock. It moved up 15 notches from #58 to #43. George Benson climbed 14 notches from #70 to #56 with "Give Me The Night." "You're The Only Woman" by Ambrosia climbed 12 spots from #76 to #64.

The song that fell down the chart the furthest dropped 46 notches. It was "All Night Thing" by The Invisible Man's Band (a new version of the Five Stairsteps) that fell from #45 to #91.

What Was New?

The highest debut of the week was by Robbie Dupree. The follow-up to the top ten hit "Steal Away" - "Hot Rod Hearts" entered the chart at #74.

There were a total of eight new songs. Future top 40 songs included "How Does It Feel To Be Back" by Daryl Hall & John Oates (#84) and "Hey There Lonely Girl" by Robert John (#85).

The remaining new songs were "Cry Just A Little" by Paul Davis, "Under The Gun" by Poco, "The Royal Mile" by Gerry Rafferty, "You And Me" by Rockie Robbins, and "Where Did We Go Wrong" by Frankie Valli & Chris Forde.
