What Was On Top?

The first number one hit by Billy Joel, "It's Still Rock N Roll To Me," was on top for a second consecutive week. He would go on to have two more chart toppers - "Tell Her About It" and "We Didn't Start The Fire."

Olivia Newton-John made a strong move from #7 to #2 with her song from Xanadu, "Magic," and looked primed to challenge Billy Joel for the top spot.

Numbers 3 through 5 remained the same as the previous week. Elton John and "Little Jeannie" was #3. The Spinners and "Cupid/I've Loved You For A Long Time" stayed at #4. The Manhattans and "Shining Star" held at #5.

What Were The Big Movers?

No songs made a double-digit climb within the top 40, but two songs made big jumps to reach the top 40. The theme song from the movie "Fame" by Irene Cara climbed from #42 to #31, while "Boulevard" by Jackson Browne jumped 15 notches from #48 to #33.

That climb of 15 spots by Jackson Browne was the biggest overall jump on the chart for the week. "Hot Rod Hearts" by Robbie Dupree climbed 14 notches from #74 to #60 in its second week.

Three songs moved up twelve spots. They were "Give Me The Night" by George Benson (#56 to #44), "Upside Down" by Diana Ross (#71 to #59), and "Hey There Lonely Girl" by Robert John (#85 to #73).

The band Player had the biggest drop on the chart for the week. Their song "It's For You" fell 45 notches from #46 to #91.

What Was New?

The highest debuting song of the week belonged to Pat Benatar. Her third chart hit "You Better Run" entered at #72.
