What Was On Top?

Olivia Newton-John moved up a spot from #2 to #1 with "Magic." The song from the Xanadu soundtrack became her fourth number one hit.

After two weeks on top Billy Joel dropped to #2 with "It's Still Rock N Roll To Me" from his album Glass Houses.

Numbers 3 through 5 remained the same for the third week in a row. Elton John and "Little Jeannie" was #3. The Spinners and "Cupid/I've Loved You For A Long Time" stayed at #4. The Manhattans and "Shining Star" held at #5.

What Were The Big Movers?

The second hit by Christopher Cross, "Sailing," made a nice jump into the top ten from #17 to #10. That was actually the biggest jump for any song within the top 40 for the week.

Two songs made double-digit leaps to reach the top 40. Ambrosia jumped 17 notches from #53 to #36 with "You're The Only Woman" while Johnny Lee climbed eleven spots from #51 to #40 with "Lookin' For Love" from the Urban Cowboy soundtrack.

Below the top 40 Bob Seger matched Ambrosia for the biggest mover of the week. "You'll Accompn'y Me" also climbed 17 notches (from #82 to #65). Other double-digit climbers were "Hot Rod Hearts" by Robbie Dupree (#60 to #46) and "Hey There Lonely Girl" by Robert John (#73 to #60).

The song that fell the furthest for the week was "She's Out Of My Life." The former top ten Michael Jackson ballad dropped 42 notches from #54 to #96.

What Was New?

The #1 song for the week was from Xanadu, and the highest-debuting song was as well. "All Over The World" by Electric Light Orchestra entered the chart at #61.

A couple future top 40 hits came in at numbers 70 & 71 - "Jesse" by Carly Simon and "Don't Ask Me Why" by Billy Joel - the third hit from his Glass Houses album.

The remaining six new songs were "Rock It" by Lipps Inc (their follow-up to "Funkytown"), "Fool For You Loving" by Whitesnake, "Stranger In My Home Town" by Foghat, "Whatever You Decide" by Randy VanWarmer, "Everything Is Alright" by Spider, and "Darlin'" by Yipes!
