What Was On Top?

Olivia Newton-John held the top spot for a second consecutive week with "Magic." The song from the Xanadu soundtrack is the singer's fourth number one hit.

The former number one song It's Still Rock N Roll To Me" by Billy Joel paused for a second week at #2 before dropping down further down the chart. Elton John spent a fourth and final week at #3 with "Little Jeannie."

"Take Your Time (Do It Right)" by The S.O.S. Band jumped from #6 to #4, and "Sailing" by Christopher Cross made a strong move from #10 up to #5.

What Were The Big Movers?

After making modest gains its first four weeks on the chart Diana Ross made a HUGE jump from #49 all the way up to debut in the top 40 at #10 with "Upside Down." It became her fifth top ten song as a solo artist and first since "Love Hangover" in 1976.

The biggest jump within the top 40 was made by Irene Cara. The theme song from the move "Fame" jumped ten spots from #27 to #17.

Below the top 40 "All Over The World" by Electric Light Orchestra jumped eighteen notches in its second week from #61 to #43. The other big movers below the top 40 were "You'll Accompn'y Me" by Bob Seger (#65 to #49) and "Don't Ask Me Why" by Billy Joel (#71 to #57).

"Biggest Part Of Me," the former top ten hit by Ambrosia, took the biggest tumble for the week dropping 39 notches from #53 down to #92.

What Was New?

The highest debut of the week was a new song by Paul Simon. "Late In The Evening" came in at #46. It was from the film One Trick Pony, a film where Simon wrote the screenplay and the music and starred.

Olivia Newton-John and Electric Light Orchestra teamed up and their theme from movie "Xanadu" debuted at #79. Other future top 40 songs that were new this week were "How Do I Survive" by Amy Holland, "Don't Ya Wanna Play This Game No More" by Elton John, "Never Knew Love Like This Before" by Stephanie Mills and "Let Me Be Your Angel" by a thirteen-year-old Stacy Lattisaw.

The other new songs were "Over You" by Roxy Music and "Red Light" by Linda Clifford.
