What Was On Top?

"Rock With You" by Michael Jackson stayed at number one for a fourth and final week. He would now wait until 1983 to hit the top again with "Billie Jean."

"Do That To Me One More Time" by The Captain & Tennille once again waited patiently at #2 and "Coward Of The County" by Kenny Rogers stayed entrenched #3.

In fact the entire top five remained the same from the previous week with "Cruisin'" by Smokey Robinson at #4 and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" by Queen at #5.

What Were The Big Movers?

"Longer" by Dan Fogelberg made an impressive jump into the top ten from #17 to #9. "Desire" by Andy Gibb also continued its fast rise up the charts moving from #22 to #13.

Three songs made big jumps into the top 40. "Too Hot" by Kool & The Gang moved from #49 to #27 while "Another Brick In The Wall" leaped from #51 to #32. But the biggest jump of the week was "How Do I Make You" by Linda Ronstadt. It moved up 33 notches from #68 to #35 in its second week.

The biggest drop within the chart belonged to Gamma's song "I'm Alive" which fell from #60 to #100.

What Was New?

There were eight new songs on the chart, and the highest debut at #73 was "Baby Talks Dirty," the lead single from the second album by The Knack. Air Supply appeared on the chart for the very first time debuting at #81 with "Lost In Love."

New songs which would eventually make the top 40 were "And The Beat Goes On" by The Whispers and "Even It Up" by Heart. The remaining new songs were "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys" by Willie Nelson, "Where Does The Lovin' Go" by David Gates, "I Shoulda Loved Ya" by Narada Michael Walden, and "I Like To Rock" by April Wine.
